This is the Korean restaurant I've been looking for in SF. Homey delicious Korean food with an incredible banchan spread We started with a spread of 8 banchan that was quickly followed up by a complimentary soondubu (how is that complimentary!?). The seafood pancake (haemul-paejon) was solid - crispy and packed with seafood (might be the best rendition I've had in SF). The pork belly (dwaeji-samyeopsal) was juicy and delicious wrapped up in the lettuce. The bibim-naengmyeon (spicy cold noodle with cucumber & egg) was refreshing and good. And then to top it off, at they end of the meal, they give you a shot of sikhye (a sweet rice drink) which is the perfect sweet drink to end the meal.

It was a nice day in SF so we spent the day at Golden Gate Park and couldn't decide on a place for dinner. Per approval of our Korean friend we chose Han Il Kwan. We were told the wait would be 40 minutes for our party of 6 on a Saturday night, but it actually took about hour and a half. We got the short ribs, brisket, spicy pork, fried pollack, and beef soup. Everything was served pretty quickly as we ordered immediately after sitting down. The short ribs were nothing special. The miso paste was a bit too salty, and the sauce for the brisket was mostly just oil. The spicy pork was marinated the best, and super tender. I wouldn't say this place is worth the wait, but it's pretty good!

My 600th Yelp review goes out to Han Il Kwan! When I was a little girl, my parents would often take me to dine at Han Il Kwan after school and I would always be excited as I looked forward to the Sikhye (sweet rice drink) that the staff would serve post-meal. Little did I know that growing up, Korean food would now be my favorite cuisine. Recently, my bf and I dined here and I have not experienced dining here as an adult with my own big girl money haha. It has definitely been awhile since I dined at Han Il Kwan. Here's my verdict: Food - 9/10 rating Service - 7/10 rating Ambiance - 7/10 rating Parking - 5/10 Logistics: -No need for reservation -When signing up on the wait list, you either choose BBQ or ANY in terms of whether you want to use the grill or not -Not an AYCE restaurant. I've actually appreciated this more because food doesn't go to waste and you don't overstuff yourself. -If you want to use the grill, you have to order a minimum of 2 orders of meat What we ordered: -1 order Pork Belly -1 order Marbled Brisket -1 order Mungbean Pancake -1 Large Terra Beer -1 Soju Total: $128 including Tax, without tip Now before you freak out about the price, yeah it's hefty but in my opinion, you definitely get what you pay for. FOOD - 9/10 rating Coming back from Seoul just recently, I was craving Samgyeopsal (pork belly) and did not want to dine at any mediocre Korean restaurant. I knew Han Il Kwan would not dissapoint despite the hefty prices. The quality of the meats were so clean, very meaty and not just all fat, the quantity of meat that was served very worth and you get what you pay for, and the ban chan (side dishes) were VERY fresh. That was one of my fond memories about Han Il Kwan, the amount of side dishes they served were plentiful and always fresh. With the downside of inflation, I was worried they would cut down on the amount of ban chan served, but they have continued to serve a ton of fresh ban chan. The sesame oil cucumbers and bean sprouts are my favorite. Every meal you order, you are served Soondubu (tofu stew) on the house! The Soondubu is so filling and flavorful. Considering it was on the house, the stew is full of toppings and not just broth. The Mungbean pancake was fried to perfection and I love how they fry multiple pieces instead of 1 huge pancake. I WAS SO SAD they ran out of the Sikhye. I was hoping to finish my experience, meal, and memory lane with the Sikhye that I always look forward to, but they ran out. SERVICE - 7/10 rating First act of service was prepping the table and our grill. They provided us a huge tea pot of Tea (I think it was Barley tea). They served our ban chan right away, gave all the utensils and grilling tools we needed. I LOVE their technique with the grill. They tilt the grill enough to wear it does not burn so quick. I also am not sure if it didnt burn as quick because we did not order any marinated meats but I am pretty sure their technique played a huge part as well. Checking up on us to see if we needed anything was minimal but not non existent as well. In fairness, we dined at a VERY BUSY time. Bathroom was very well kept and for some reason I was not expecting it to be but I am so glad it was. AMBIANCE - 7/10 rating I never thought of it as a little girl but now from an adult point of view, I never realized the accents of the tiled roof they have as a border around the ceiling. I noticed they definitely renovated and I love the color of the paint they used (White, greyish light brown, blue tile roofs as a ceiling border). They have cute Korean wall art on each pillar as well. Han Il Kwan's ambiance is very minimalistic and simplistic which I love. PARKING - 5/10 As for any area in the Richmond District, parking sucks lol. I was already anticipating it. The good thing is, it is in a residential area so you don't have to worry about the meter, but, you are competing with residents who also use street parking. I'm very happy Han Il Kwan is still in business and has reminded me that Han Il Kwan will continue to be one of my well kept recs for good Korean food.

My FAVORITE KBBQ place in SF!! This place feels authentic and homely just like in Korea, with lots of unlimited banchan (including steamed egg!!). The meat was of excellent quality and the seafood pajeon was one of the most authentic pancakes I've had - both chewy and crispy. We also enjoyed their dumpling noodle soup!! Service was good, we thought they would give a dessert but unfortunately they ran out . Would highly recommend visiting and of a decent price too!!!

Amazing experience at han il kwan!! I always get the marinated galbi with steamed egg and the soybean stew. These menu items are a must! The quality of the meat is unmatched to any korean bbq place i've ever been to. This time I tried the steamed dumplings and they were amazing! Great flavor and texture. The service is great as always:) I had time to squeeze in this meal before departing from SFO, but totally worth it and a must go before you leave!
